“A heartwarming story that will resonate with every person who has ever had
a pet who was also their best friend.”
—KRISTEN EHLE, Teacher at Prairie Elementary
"Jack was an amazing dog and my best friend. This is his story. It is going
to start at the end, when we said goodbye. And end at the beginning,
when we said hello. I didn’t want to end at the end because that would
be sad. And I like happy endings. And happy middles. This story has both."
STEVEN STACK has been writing for young audiences for a good while now. He began his writing journey in second grade when he created the outstandingly complex story Dumb Pilot, featuring a pilot of questionable intelligence. The story riveted his second-grade classmates, including Lisa, with whom he did a puppet show later in the school year. Steven moved on to writing plays after writing more stories and dipping his toes into poetry (the heart-warming “DOG” was featured in not only his high school literary magazine but his college one as well). He has published over 30 plays, racking up over 400 performances in 45 states and eight countries.
His first children’s book, Behind the Curtain: The Tooth Fairy, was the 2024 Midwest Children’s Book of the Year and was based on an actual letter from the Tooth Fairy. He has also written a YA novel, The Bottom of the Lake, a spooky and fun tale based on one of his plays.
Outside of writing, Steven plays many roles, but his favorite is being the dad of Chloe and Zoe. Along with Pepper and Silk, their dog and cat, they live in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, the troll capital of the world.
