Getting Started with Backyard Chickens

Interested in keeping backyard chickens? This presentation will discuss why you might want to raise an urban chicken flock, basic husbandry for chicks and older hens, including housing, feeding, cleaning, etc., and will discuss some common concerns, and preventive measures for many of these concerns.  There will also be time to answer other questions about poultry.

Ron Kean is the state poultry specialist with University of Wisconsin Extension.  Ron has a BS in Animal Science from University of Nebraska and an MS in poultry breeding from Iowa State University.  He has worked with poultry all his life, including growing up on a small diversified farm, working in a commercial hatchery, and doing research, teaching, and extension.
